Join us for a letterpress workshop at Sonos Studio with The Counter Press in which you’ll learn the process of letterpress and use it to create a sleeve design using only wood and metal type.
The Counter Press is a typographic design studio and letterpress workshop based in East London, specialising in fine typography, meticulously crafted using hand-set wood and metal type. Those who followed our project last year may be familiar with their print for The Maccabees’ track “Go”, produced as part of our partnership with Monotype in 2015.
For this workshop we’re asking you to interpret your chosen song in 7 words (or fewer), using a combination of language, typography, composition and colour. Your words (or individual characters) could be a review of the song, a feeling, a play on the title or lyrics, or an expression of what it means to you – the challenge is to convey something specific about that particular track.
The workshop will start with an introduction to the principles and basics of letterpress. We’ll try simple typesetting and proofing exercises to get to grips with the process; before moving on to design, typeset and print your own one-of-a-kind Secret 7” sleeve.
Tickets are super limited, this is an intimate affair.
In exchange for a ticket we ask you give generously in the form of a donation to our 2016 cause, Amnesty International UK.
