Secret 7" 2020 has been postponed until September
Launch day is hugely exciting and it’s always a pleasure to be able to introduce you to the seven acts that make up our line-up. I’m sure some of our more avid fans, as well as the creative community that has over the years congregated around the project, have been eagerly anticipating today’s launch.
But for Jord and I, today is a mixed bag of emotions. As we say hello again to you all, we start the long goodbye to Secret 7” - 2020 will be our final year.
Secret 7" has been tied to a concept we developed back in 2012 - 7 songs, 700 records, each at a set price and sold first-come first-served. At the time, I was working at a record company in London, where the idea was first born. I was introduced to Jord, based in Manchester at a creative agency, and we finessed the idea into something we hoped would attract a crowd.
We had no real vision beyond wanting to do something positive. But our blind ambition, mixed in with some healthy naivety and the support of some good friends, made the first year a success.
The naivety has been replaced with lessons learnt over the past six instalments, and the blind ambition has been harnessed into a belief that we’ve been doing something that people love, and has raised thousands of pounds for some very worthy causes.
Over the years we've been developing and pushing the project and now it feels like we’ve reached its logical conclusion. Ending on the seventh year, feels wonderfully apt. It's been hard to come to this decision, but it was important to us that we broke the news upfront that so that this year can be a proper celebration.
By the end of this show we’ll have made 4,900 one-of-a-kind records for 49 different tracks, and we'll have raised over £250,000 for good causes. We’ve made some great friends, started some interesting conversations about the importance of creativity, and fulfilled many designers and artists' dreams - to create artwork for a record.
Most importantly, we’ve celebrated the power of art and music and seen the impact they can have on people’s lives.
Though Secret 7” is coming to an end, we’ll be exploring new ways we can continue our celebration of creativity whilst making a positive impact, through reimagining the concept and our wider work as Goodness.
We're looking forward to sharing with you some of our favourite memories over the years during this campaign. Secret 7" would be nothing without our contributors and record buyers, so we'd love for you to get in touch on social to share your fondest memories too.
For now, we want 2020 to be our greatest hit. If you've thought of designing but never done it, now's your time. If you've bought a record every year, make sure you complete the set in May. We want to smash our annual fundraising record of £42,000.
